We started out in 2024 in Dartmouth with a mobile gift shop on a converted old school “Ice cream man” tricycle. We somehow convinced the city of Halifax to give us a license to drive it on the street, just like the “Ice cream man” used to back in the day. We also took it to long term care facilities, essentially “taking the shopping to the seniors” and helping to brighten their day and/or suite with our artisanal decor!
A side hustle of sports cards developed alongside the trike business, basically setting up to sell cards at shows around the Maritimes. The physicality of the 2 mobile businesses and a few other factors led us to a desire to open a combined brick & mortar business somewhere between Yarmouth and Montreal. We analyzed the various markets and Charlottetown finished first (by a lot) so here we are for our second time living and working in Charlottetown!!

At Gifted Rookies we offer a wide range of unique and exciting products for collectors and gift seekers. Our inventory features an extensive selection of sports cards including basketball, baseball, hockey, football, and more for both experienced collectors and newcomers.
In addition, we proudly partner with Local Artisans gift shop to bring you one of a kind items hand crafted by talented artists. Our collection includes jewelry, clothing, handmade teddy bears, stationary items, coasters and more. Many of these pieces are inspired by the beauty of Prince Edward Island and use natural materials like sea glass and other coastal finds.

About The Owner
Jeff MacDougall is the founder of Gifted Rookies. Born in Halifax and raised on the West Island of Montreal, he has lived and worked across Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Ontario, Alberta, and California. Those experiences have given him a grounded, real-world perspective on what it takes to build something from scratch and adapt along the way.
Before opening Gifted Rookies, Jeff spent over two decades as a middle manager in industries ranging from transportation to real estate, including a rewarding 7 years as GM of a locally owned car rental company on the Island. A self-described “generalist,” he built a career stepping into new environments, trying things others wouldn’t, and helping teams find better ways forward. His approach has always been rooted in honesty, empathy, and a willingness to challenge the status quo when needed.
He studied Commerce at McGill University and is pretty much bilingual, give or take. Like many Canadians, he’s spent years working hard, navigating uncertainty, and figuring things out as he goes. That mindset carries into Gifted Rookies—a shop built on curiosity, calculated risks, and a belief that anything can be accomplished, large or small, via straight talk, hard work, honesty and an absolute resolve to make it happen, no matter what.
